Denny Solomona: From Samoa rugby league to union with England?

Former England wing Ugo Monye says the potential selection of New Zealand-born Denny Solomona for the national team when he becomes eligible is a ‘tricky’ situation.

The 23-year-old Sale wing will be available for Eddie Jones' side later this year after playing in England for the past 36 months, having represented Samoa in rugby league.

He left rugby league when he switched codes to join Sale Sharks in December.

“It’s a tricky one, a tough one,” Monye said.

“There’s so many different aspects to this.

“He’s said his heart is not in this country, I want people to play for this country that believe their heart is here, that it means more than just the match fees.

“If your heart is here and you want to play for England because you’re desperate to be a proud Englishman then I actually don’t care where you come from, if that’s what you believe in your heart,” he added.
