Karen Danczuk: 'Family don't believe my brother raped me'
Karen Danczuk has told BBC 5 live that her family still don’t believe that she was raped by her brother as a child.
Michael Burke was jailed for 15 years in December, after being found guilty of eight counts of rape and one other serious sexual offence.
In her first BBC interview, the ex-wife of MP for Rochdale Simon Danczuk, told Emma Barnett on 5 live Daily that the abuse has caused a rift in the family that has still not healed.
She also described how the abuse started when she was six years old. "It mainly happened on Sunday because Sunday was when I had a bath. They're (family) completely on his side, I think they think that I'm this horrible person. The real horrible person is the one in jail."
Karen has now decided to waive her anonymity as a sign of solidarity with abuse survivors. She's also recently become a patron for NAPAC - the National Association for People Abused in Childhood.
