‘City don’t have one outstanding goalkeeper at the moment’
The Times' Chief Football Writer Henry Winter analyses the goalkeeping situation at Manchester City.
“It was a very bizarre decision to alienate and push Joe Hart out. Everyone talks about his footwork, but the most important thing is the shot stopping, and anyone who has watched Joe Hart for Manchester City in the big games in Europe, he’s made some fantastic save after save keeping Manchester City in important games.
“Claudio Bravo, when he came in, he’s not the tallest of goalkeepers. It was always going to be sort of physical, and they don’t have one outstanding goalkeeper at the moment. This is a club that’s had good goalkeepers down the years and shamefully, because of Guardiola, Joe Hart was pushed out.”
Manchester City have conceded more goals than any other in the top seven, while goalkeeper Bravo has been beaten by 14 of the last 22 shots on target.
