BBC One’s new idents capture the diversity of Britain

The BBC One hippos are disappearing from our screens - along with the other circular-themed idents including display dogs, motorbike stunt riders, kites and lawnmowers.

Replacing them are a new set of scenes of British people doing British things. These include wheelchair rugby players, a zumba class, and a group of open water swimmers looking pretty chilly in Somerset.

Len Hurley is one of the swimmers, he said: “We’ve had history of winter swimming in Clevedon since the 30s and a group of us have been doing it for quite a long time. Someone from the BBC asked if we wanted to help promote their programmes and obviously we said yes.”

“We don’t stay in long as it’s quite cold, but when you come out you are quite euphoric - we really enjoy ourselves,” added Len on his experience of the chilly waters.
