"The government should take back funding of the BBC's Monitoring service"

The Commons Defence Committee recommendation on grounds of national security.

Keir Giles, Chatham House:

"It's unusual that two separate parliamentary committees have come out with the same conclusion that the BBC's plans are misguided and just plain wrong.

"There are some things that are incontrovertible, the committee points out that the building you (BBC Radio Berkshire, and BBC Monitoring) are in, was purchased with government money and now the BBC wants to pocket the cash.

"The committee are suggesting adjusting and correcting that situation, so the people paying for the service are the ones that benefit from it."
