Man Utd decision may have been in referee’s mind for Vardy red - Nevin
Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin says referee Craig Pawson’s decision not to send Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo off against Crystal Palace would have been in his mind when dismissing Leicester’s Jamie Vardy against Stoke.
The England striker was shown a red card after 28 minutes for a two footed challenge on Mame Diouf, drawing comparisons to a challenge by Rojo for which the defender was given a yellow card.
“We all looked at it and thought it was a definite stick-on of a red card for Rojo, and he’s thought to himself, well I can’t make that mistake,” Nevin said.
“Had he got yellow you’d have said, fair enough.
“Letter of the law and when you’ve got that pressure of what you haven’t done in the Manchester United game, there’s no surprise whatsoever the referee has called it as a sending off,” he added.
