The German authorities are questioning a man who they suspect deliberately drove a truck into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin, killing at least twelve people.

The Russian and Turkish presidents have said the assassination of Russia's ambassador to Turkey was aimed at derailing peace efforts in Syria.
