Student discovers man he helped was on-the-run rapist
A university student has told BBC 5 live about his remarkable experience when he and a friend took in a man they thought was homeless - but who actually turned out to be a convicted rapist on the run.
Tom Phillips told Emma Barnett on 5 live Daily that they didn't realise he was a criminal when they invited him in and gave him some food. An hour into the discussion, the offender revealed he had escaped from prison after being convicted of rape and robbery.
Tom and his friend stayed talking to the man, and after more conversation the man suggested that he hand himself into police. He is now back in prison.
