
Trump Appoints "a True General's General"
US Defence Secretary; Italy referendum; Abuse in sport
US President-elect Donald Trump has named General James Mattis as his defence secretary. Mr Trump has previously described Gen Mattis, 66, as "a true general's general". Gen Mattis, who is known as "Mad Dog", was an outspoken critic of the Obama administration's Middle East policy, particularly on Iran.
On Sunday, Italians go to the polls. With its high debt, its weak banks stuffed with non-performing loans, it is the country that carries the greatest risk for the eurozone. Anti-establishment parties are polling strongly. Italy is a front line in the refugee crisis, its economy is stagnant and GDP is nearly 9% less than it was a decade ago. We hear from supporters from each side.
Several former professional football players in the UK have revealed they were sexually abused by their coach, when they were children. However, the sexual abuse of children by their coaches is a global problem and one of the sports particularly affected has been swimming in the United States. We hear from Robert Allard, who's a lawyer in California representing victims of sexual abuse in swimming.
