Ronnie O’Sullivan on growing up with jailed parents
Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan spoke to 5 live about how he grew up with his parents in jail, and how he managed to succeed despite the circumstances.
He said: “It’s a hard thing to say, but you have to cut off. The moment I started being a little more selfish I started to feel the pressure releasing from me.”
O’Sullivan overcame problems with alcohol in his early 20’s, and now has 28 ranking event wins and 5 world championships to his name. He has recently turned his hand to writing, penning his first crime novel - ‘Framed’.
“I was always determined – it held me back for six or seven years and I kind of lost myself a bit. The voice of my Dad in the back of my head saying I was going to be a champion one day made me sort myself out,” added the snooker ace.
