Earthquake Sparks Japan Tsunami Warning

Japan Earthquake; IS Weapons; Pope Abortion

Tsunami warnings have been issued for northeast Japan following a powerful earthquake. The quake had a magnitude of six-point-nine; its epicentre was located some seventy kilometres off Fukushima prefecture.

As the battle for Mosul in Iraq continues, so-called Islamic State seems to have no shortage of weapons with which to fight. The BBC can now reveal that much of this came from European factories and was bought by the US and Saudi Arabia for other groups fighting in Syria, but was then diverted into the hands of IS. We speak to the BBC's security correspondent Gordon Corera.

Pope Francis has extended indefinitely the power of all Roman Catholic priests to forgive women who have had abortions. Last year, he granted priests the same powers, for the duration of what he'd decreed as the Holy Year of Mercy, which ended on Sunday.
