David Bernstein: FA managerial recruitment process flawed

Former FA Chairman David Bernstein says England will continue to fail while the FA’s managerial recruitment process remains the same.

“The key problem here, whoever we appoint, whether that be Gareth Southgate or anybody else, we are going to be handicapped by the system we have,” Bernstein said.

“I think it’s going to be the most impossible job it has been, and it will continue to be pretty much an impossible job for anybody. We’ve had overseas managers, we’ve had English managers, we’ve had managers with great records, and very few of them have done anything other than fail.” He added.

Gareth Southgate was appointed interim England manager in September following the hasty departure of predecessor Sam Allardyce after just 67 days, and one game in charge.
