Cricket umpire abused and spat at

Verbal and physical abuse towards umpires at every level of the game is on the increase. Nearly 800 umpires were surveyed by academics from the University of Portsmouth - with more than half saying they've been verbally abused, and 40% thinking of quitting the game altogether.

One umpire reveals he regularly experiences “dissent, foul language and threatening behaviour” leaving him unable to sleep at night.

Not only that, but games are being abandoned due to violent outbursts on the pitch. The cricket authorities say they’re very concerned.
