Paris Climate Agreement Becomes International Law

COP treaty comes into force; Kurdish MPs arrested in Turkey; Latest from the Iraq front line

The Paris Agreement to combat climate change has become international law. The treat has been hailed as a landmark demonstrating that countries are serious about tackling global warming amid growing fears that the world is becoming hotter faster than scientists expected.

The Turkish authorities have detained eleven MPs from the pro-Kurdish HDP party, including its leaders. Reports say police raided the houses of Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yüksekdag as part of an anti-terrorist investigation. A fellow MP, Ertuğrul Kürkçü, told the BBC that the parliamentarians had been illegally hijacked.

As the battle in Iraq continues we hear from our correspondents in the country.
