Hurricane Matthew Hits Haiti

Hurricane Matthew slams into Haiti; US Vice-presidential debate; Yahoo surveillance.

Hurricane Matthew has wrought significant damage on its passage across Haiti. At least one Haitian has been killed, as well as four people in the neighbouring Dominican Republic.

The two American vice-presidential candidates are holding their first televised debate. The Democrat, Tim Kaine, is facing the outgoing Republican governor of Indiana Mike Pence at Farmville in Senator Kaine's home state of Virginia.

It's reported that Yahoo secretly scanned millions of its users' email accounts on behalf of the US government. According to the Reuters news agency, the firm built special software last year to comply with a classified request.
