Hurricane Matthew has wrought significant damage across Haiti and the neighbouring Dominican Republic, killing at least five people.

The two American vice-presidential candidates are holding their first televised debate. The Democrat, Tim Kaine, is facing the outgoing Republican governor of Indiana Mike Pence at Farmville in Senator Kaine's home state of Virginia.
