Manhattan explosion injures 29 people; Russian Elections; UNGA
The New York mayor, Bill de Blasio, said a complex investigation was trying to establish the motivation behind the bomb attack, which injured 29 people.
The party of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is heading for an easy victory in parliamentary elections. Partial results suggest United Russia could win nearly 50% of the votes, which would give it a majority of seats in parliament. But voter turnout is thought to be a historic low of around 40%.
The United Nations General Assembly is meeting and will discuss global migration and the refugee crisis. Newsday speaks to UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.
