
Forty-five Stranded in Cable Cars Over Alps
Alps cable cars; North Korea tests; Gabon unrest
Forty-five people remain stuck on a series of cable cars high above the glaciers of Mont Blanc in the French Alps, a local official has said. Initially 110 people were trapped, but 65 were airlifted out by helicopters. The operation was suspended as night fell and will resume in the morning.
The South Korean government says there is a high possibility that North Korea has conducted another nuclear test. A five-point-three magnitude seismic event has been recorded near North Korea's main test site in the north-east. Steve Evans has more details from Seoul.
Gabon's main opposition leader Jean Ping has filed a petition to the country's High Court against the result of last month's presidential election. The electoral commission had declared the incumbent Ali Bongo winner but the opposition says the poll was stolen. Some believe this process has been made even more complicated by the close and familiar links between many of the major players in this political saga.
