Rival demonstrations in Venezuela; Georgetown Uni slave descendants; 350 years since the Fire of London

Supporters and opponents of President Maduro of Venezuela have held huge rival demonstrations on the streets of the capital Caracas.

A leading university in the United States is to give preference in its admissions process to the descendants of slaves it sold in the nineteenth century. The measure is one of several announced by Georgetown University in Washington to atone for its involvement in the slave trade.

In the early hours of September 2nd, three hundred and fifty years ago, a fire broke out in a bakery in Pudding Lane here in London. It rapidly spread and ended up destroying much of Medieval London.
