Could Renewed Fighting Mar Myanmar Talks?
Myanmar talks; ISIS leader killed; Gabon election results.
There have been reports of renewed fighting between government troops and rebels in Myanmar, just as the biggest peace talks in the country's history get underway. It will bring together de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi's government and guerilla groups to try to end wars in its border regions that go as far back as 1948.
One of the longest-serving and most prominent leaders of so-called Islamic State (IS) has been killed in Syria, IS-affiliated media say. The Amaq News Agency reported that Abu Muhammad al-Adnani had died in the province of Aleppo.
Tensions continue to simmer in Gabon between the incumbent President Ali Bongo and his challenger, Jean Ping. Victory has been declared by both sides in recent elections, with Jean Ping's side saying that results from eight out of nine provinces show them in the lead. Ali Bongo's family have governed the country for nearly 50 years.
