Myanmar Ethnic Groups Attend Government Peace Talks

Myanmar talks; Menstrual apps; Gabon elections

The government of Myanmar is holding landmark peace talks with armed ethnic groups as part of efforts to bring an end to decades of conflict. The meeting in the capital Nay Pyi Taw, involving 17 groups, is being opened by Aung San Suu Kyi and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Worldwide, it's believed that there have been as many as 200 million downloads of apps which allow women to track their menstrual cycles. But one of the UK's leading medical colleges has warned that women shouldn't use these programmes as a form of contraception.

Tensions continue to simmer in Gabon between the incumbent President Ali Bongo and his challenger, Jean Ping. Victory has been declared by both sides in recent elections, with Jean Ping's side saying that results from 8 out of 9 provinces show them in the lead. Ali Bongo's family have governed the country for nearly 50 years.
