Euros: Error means England women’s team qualify
The captain of England women’s football team has told 5 live she is “really happy” they have qualified for the Euro 2017 tournament after a clerical error.
Steph Houghton said the team “were all together” when they found out they had qualified, having flown back to the UK from their qualifying match.
The team had originally been told their 7-0 win over Serbia did not guarantee them qualification for the tournament. It has since emerged that the win assured the team would be placed in one of the six best runner-up slots, which means they will be going to the Euro finals in the Netherlands next year.
