US to Lift Arms Export Embargo on Former Foe, Vietnam

The US lifts an arms exports embargo against Vietnam; Iraq is acting to drive Islamic State militants out of Fallujah; Germany's Bayer bids $62bn for agrochemical giant Monsanto.

President Obama - on a visit to Hanoi - has just announced that the United States is lifting its embargo on arms exports to Vietnam.

The Iraqi prime minister says the military has begun an offensive to drive Islamic State militants out of the city of Fallujah.

The German firm Bayer has made a $62bn offer to buy the American agrochemical company, Monsanto - a deal which could create the world's largest supplier of seeds, pesticides, and fertiliser.
