
The Syrian City of Daraa - Five Years Since the Uprising
Back to Daraa where the Syrian war began; Former Jewish refugees write Syrians letters; India Sweets.
Five years ago, almost to the day protests took place in Daraa in Southern Syria which marked the first uprisings or people's revolution, which turned into a brutal civil war. President Bashar Al Assad's government has stood firm despite all opposition military. The country meanwhile has been torn apart by the fighting which has seen more than 250,000 killed and nearly 10 million displaced. Our chief international correspondent, Lyse Doucet has been back to where it all started in Daraa, having been one of the first foreign journalists to visit at the time.
Through an innovative project, air organisation CARE are linking those displaced during World War II with today's child refugees in the hope they can give comfort.
