Fifa to Elect New President

Delegates also vote on proposed reforms; Syria cessation of hostilities; Colombian butterflies

Football's world governing body, Fifa, will elect a new president on Friday. It will also vote on a package of reforms intended to bring to an end the corruption that contributed to the downfall of the former president, Sepp Blatter. More than two hundred delegates will choose his successor from five candidates.

In Syria a cessation of hostilities - the temporary halt of fighting there - is due to come into force at midnight on Friday. There's serious doubt that any truce can hold but it does have the backing of the American President Barack Obama who hopes it might help to bring an end to chaos in the country.

And in South America scientists are trying to find out more about rare and little known species of butterflies and moths in the secluded mountains of Colombia.
