More action needed to tackle gender pay difference

Big firms - those with more than 250 staff - will have to publish the pay differences between male and female employees on the same salary band. Companies could also feature in league tables if they fail to address what's known as the gender pay gap.

The Conservative MP Maria Miller was the Women and Equalities Minister until 2014. She now chairs the select committee with the same brief and told Edward Stourton "I admire the government's ambition but we do not at the moment have the policies to match that ambition"
