'Humanitarian Crisis in Syria Turns into an Utter Catastrophe'
Aid agencies' warning; New scheme to protect women in Pakistan; Pregnant virgin shark
Aid agencies have warned that a humanitarian crisis in Syria caused by fighting around the northern city of Aleppo is turning into an utter catastrophe. The International Committee of the Red Cross says water supplies in the city have been cut for the last two weeks, with pumping stations destroyed. Some aid supply routes are now impassable and there are shortages of fuel and electricity.
A new scheme has been launched in Pakistan's Punjab province to give women reassurance that they can travel in safety and without harassment from men. It is called WoW, which stands for Women on Wheels - it is how the Punjab government hopes to conquer the sexual molestation and harassment they often face at the hands of men. Women are given free lessons to learn to ride scooters, which they will then be able to get at a subsidised rate.
And a virgin female shark is pregnant and due to give birth to two babies. According to experts she has not had contact with males of her species in the last two years.
