Crispin Blunt MP: Why poppers should remain legal

The Westminster government plans to make illegal many substances collectively known as legal highs.

The Psychoactive Substances Bill is going through Parliament - but in the Commons on Wednesday, the Conservative MP Crispin Blunt called for an exception to be made for a drug popularly known as poppers.

The exemption was rejected by MPs on Wednesday afternoon, with the government winning by 81 votes.

The government's "Talk to Frank" website says side-effects from poppers can include chemical burns with the development of a rash around the nose and mouth, and/or irritation of the nose and throat, feelings of sickness, faintness and weakness.

Giving his first interview since revealing in the Commons he used poppers, Crispin Blunt spoke to Eddie Mair on PM.
