Markets React Calmly to China Slowdown

China slowdown, Oscars boycott, Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey dies

The Chinese economy grew by 6.9% last year. It is the slowest rate of growth for the world's second largest economy in 25 years. There has been a calm reaction in the Asian markets, since the growth figure was in line with expectations.

The head of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organisation which awards the Oscars, says she is heartbroken and frustrated by the lack of diversity in this year's list of nominees. Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who is herself an African American, said the Academy was taking dramatic steps to alter the make-up of its membership.

Glenn Frey, acclaimed guitarist and founding member of the Eagles has died at the age of 67 in New York. The band was hugely successful in the 1970s, with multiple hit singles including Hotel California, in 1976.
