The Battle For Sangin In Afghanistan

Troop reinforcements for Sangin; Closing in on downtown Ramadi; Shenzhen survivor

The deputy governor of Helmand, in southern Afghanistan, has told the BBC that military reinforcements have arrived in the town of Sangin, to support a few hundred police and soldiers besieged by Taliban militants.

Iraqi forces are moving closer to the centre of Ramadi, fighting street by street, on the second day of a major assault to drive out Islamic State fighters who captured the city in May.

A survivor has been pulled out alive some sixty hours after he was buried under an industrial landslide in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
