Taliban Claim to Capture Sangin
Afghan insurgency; Burundi violence; Colombia landmines
Taliban forces claim they have taken control of the town of Sangin in Helmand province. The Taliban say they have overrun most of the town and the main administrative building has been abandoned.
Amnesty International says that security forces in Burundi systematically killed dozens of people during violent repression that took place in the capital Bujumbura on 11 December.
Over the past 15 years, more than 11,000 people in Colombia have been killed or maimed by landmines. A group of men from the Colombian Army and from the FARC guerrillas have been demining a small area in the northwest of the country - the first time the "enemies" have worked together.
