French Diplomacy in aftermath of Paris attacks; Pope in Africa; Attacks in Niger
An official commemoration ceremony is being held today in Paris to honour the victims of the recent attacks which left 130 dead. In the aftermath of these attacks President Hollande of France has been meeting world leaders, seeking to form a broad coalition to take on so-called Islamic State in Syria. To gauge the success of this Newsday speaks to former American diplomat William Jordan.
Pope Francis will today visit the Kangemi slum in Nairobi (home to around 100, 000 people) before leaving for the next leg of his African visit, to Uganda. We hear from Newsday's Alan Kasujja on the preparations taking place in Uganda.
Islamic militants Boko Haram targeted the village of Diffa in Niger, an attack which prompted the country's Justice Minister to say that 'Boko Haram has once again sent us into mourning'. The medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres works in the area and we speak to their Western African Desk Manager Luis Encinas.
