Turkey Russia Worsening Relations

Turkish-Russian relations worsen, Colombian soldiers in Yemen, Uganda Pope visit.

Relations between Turkey and Russia have taken a turn for the worse following the downing of a Russian military jet on Tuesday. Russia's Prime Minister has warned that the government are planning wide-ranging economic sanctions against Turkey in the coming days. Lilit Gevorgyan is a senior economist with IHS Global Insight and talks to Newsday about the economic fallout from Tuesday's events.

Reports have been surfacing about hundreds of Colombian former soldiers being hired by the United Arab Emirates government to fight in Yemen, as part of the Emirati army. The BBC's Luis Fajardo spoke to Yineth Bedoya, the sub-editor of Colombia's largest newspaper, El Tiempo, who has spoken to some of the soldiers.

As Uganda prepares to welcome Pope Francis today, Newsday's Alan Kasujja has been looking at the preparations taking place. He also talks to a Ugandan transgender activist about what she is hoping for from the Pope's visit.
