Russian Response to Doping Allegations; Syrian Soldiers; Meningitis in Africa
In response to accusations of doping by the commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the BBC's Evan Davies heard from general secretary of the All-Russia Athletic Federation, Mikhail Butov.
For two years a small group of Syrian soldiers held out against Islamic State militants at an airbase near Aleppo. Their ordeal now appears to be over, due to a combination of Syrian government forces, Russian airstrikes and Iranian military advisers. For analysis Newsday speaks to Judith Kipper, Director of the Middle East Programme at the Institute of World Affairs.
An extensive vaccination campaign across the central 'Meningitis belt' of Africa, from Senegal to Kenya, has virtually eliminated the disease in 16 African countries. Newsday spoke to Steve Davis, CEO of the charity PATH, who partnered with the World Health Organisation for the campaign.
