Sir Alex Ferguson’s world-class player list is ‘nonsensical’
Speaking to BBC Sport's Dan Walker, Sir Alex Ferguson said he only managed four world-class players during his time as Manchester United boss – Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo.
That came as a surprise to Robbie Savage, who believes several more former United players – including Peter Schmeichel, Rio Ferdinad and Roy Keane – should have been included.
"The huge surprise is Roy Keane, how you can’t class Roy Keane as world class is ridiculous,” he said.
"What defines a world-class player? Was Cantona world class? Should he make that list over Roy Keane and Peter Schmeichel?
"I know he’s got a book to sell but to not have Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel and Rio Ferdinand in there is wrong.”
