Adam Peaty's mum: My son was 'petrified of water'

Adam Peaty's mum says the 50m and 100m breaststroke gold medallist used to be "petrified of water".

Caroline Peaty said the 20-year-old from Uttoxeter would scream during bath-time when he was a child.

"He wouldn't go in the bath and he wouldn't stand under the shower - he was completely petrified of water," said Caroline.

"Like I've done with all my children, I wanted them to swim to keep safe. My friend took him the first time because it was breaking my heart."

"It took about a week then we got him used to water, then we got him into swimming lessons," she added.
