'I could see the men and boys falling'

Nedzad Advic was shot several times during the Srebrenica massacre.

"I hid behind others," he recalled. "I wanted to live a few seconds more."

Mr Advic was with his father, who was later confirmed to have been killed in the massacre.

Nedzad Advic was shot in the stomach, right arm and foot. "I wanted to die, but I didn't dare call the soldiers to kill me. My pain was unbearable."

Mr Advic, who is in the UK with the charity Remembering Srebrenica, said there is not enough awareness of the massacre.

"Young people do not learn about Srebrenica. This is a shame to Europe."

Remembrance remains politicised, he added.

"Every day you hear Serb politicians deny the genocide. With this denial they feed a new generation with hatred."
