Church Burns in Charleston
Seventh church in flames, Greece misses payment, USA beat Germany at World Cup.
The Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Greeleyville, South Carolina burnt on Tuesday night and is now smouldering. According to the local police chief the fire could have been started by lightning from a storm, but can not confirm this until an investigation is carried out. It is the seventh African-American church to burn in the American South since the attack on a church in Charleston - three have been ruled arson and the others are still under investigation.
The Greek debt crisis has entered a new phase after Athens failed to meet a repayment deadline to the International Monetary Fund. Greece is now cut off from further loans, its international bailout has been suspended and the European Central Bank meets today to discuss whether it needs to impose fresh terms for the emergency loans that sustain the country's banks.
In the Women's World Cup semi-final in Canada, the United States have beaten Germany 2-0. The Americans will meet either Japan or England in the final in Vancouver on Sunday.
