New Nepal Rescue Begins

Rescue operations are resuming in Nepal, after a second major earthquake. Defence minister of North Korea reported to have been executed. Anniversary of Andijan massacre.

Rescue operations are resuming in Nepal, which has been hit by a second major earthquake in less than three weeks. About fifty people are known to have died in Nepal but the authorities expect that total to rise in the coming hours.
South Korea's intelligence agency says the defence minister of North Korea has been executed, for disloyalty and lack of respect for the country's leader, Kim Jong-un. The agency told parliamentarians in the South that the minister, Hyon Yong-Chol, was shot by anti-aircraft fire in front of hundreds of officials at the end of April.
Ten years ago hundreds of people died, some eyewitnesses say up to a thousand, when troops opened fire on a largely peaceful crowd in Andijan, one of the largest cities in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek government said its soldiers were fighting off Islamic radicals attempting a coup, and that only 187 people died, most at the hand of extremists.
