Departing World Service Director Peter Horrocks
After five years as World Service director, Peter Horrocks speaks to his listeners one last time. He responds to your criticism and recommendations for the network’s future
Peter Horrocks’ time as the director of the World Service Group has come to an end after five years of managing the network’s output across radio, television and online mediums. On his final day, Peter Horrocks gives direct answers to some of your concerns about the network’s future.
Avid World Service listeners across several continents give Peter their views on the state of the station’s output and question what the future will bring. Peter Horrocks speaks to his younger student community of listeners from the US and discusses how the network could reach a more wide-ranging American audience.
A listener from Ghana questions the network’s reporting of Ebola for referring to the outbreak as “across West Africa” rather than specific countries. And presenter Rajan Datar asks whether the World Service is meeting the needs of the growing listenership in different parts of the world.
And with a 40 million strong Kurdish community, a listener from the United Arab Emirates asks why a BBC Kurdish service is still not in existence.
