The dig begins to discover what lies beneath the Grand Western Canal
What you can see is a wooden 'stop gate', used in the olden days to close off parts of the canal for works to be done. It's underneath the Swing Bridge near Halberton. The gates won't actually be dug up......just recorded for posterity. Generally the repair work is going well and depending on the weather, the council aims to complete it by the end of March.
