Foals frontman in 100 Guitars project

Yannis Philippakis from Oxford band Foals took part in a concert with 100 electric guitarists playing music by American composer Rhys Chatham.

The performance of his large-scale work A Crimson Grail took place in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral at 7.30pm BST and guitarists from all over the UK and further afield came together to be involved.

Rhys Chatham is best known for his guitar orchestras and has worked with artists including Philip Glass, Sonic Youth and Robert Fripp of King Crimson.

This will mark the opening of the Liverpool Biennial, which is the UK Biennial of Contemporary Art, the largest international contemporary art festival in the UK.

Here, Foals frontman Yannis tells 6 Music’s Georgie Rogers what attracted him to getting involved with this project.
