When William III brought Huguenot craftsman Jean Tijou across the seas to create the magnificent ironwork for Hampton Court, he brought a revolutionary new kind of designer in iron to British shores. Tijou’s finely hammered repoussé work and lavish baroque style and would leave a lasting legacy for British blacksmithing, and soon be adapted and imitated throughout the land.
