Tougher sentencing guidelines have been introduced to deal with the owners of dangerously out of control dogs, in response to a rise in dog attacks.

In the most serious cases, anyone who allows a dog to be dangerously out of control and injure someone, would face up to eighteen months in jail. The current limit is twelve months.
