Judges are being urged to be more consistent in the sentences they hand out to owners of dangerous dogs.

More than seventeen hundred people were prosecuted last year under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

But the Magistrates' Association says sentences vary too widely - and it's issuing new guidelines.
