Alice's family life mirrors the changes in her community. The demise of Grimsby's fishing industry has left the town with high levels of unemployment, and drug and alcohol problems. And alcohol problems in her own family has left Alice with the responsibility of raising her young granddaughter Oliviar since she was born.
