The inter-war years were dominated for Enescu by the completion of his opera Oedipe which he had laboured over for more than two decades.
The interwar years were dominated for Enescu by the completion in 1931 of the first major Romanian opera, Oedipe, which he had laboured over for more than two decades. During a period which was to prove difficult in his personal life he also wrote several pieces with a national style in mind, by attempting to reflect in music the soul of his people, rather than quoting folk tunes.
