Patten police redundancy bill hits £500m
The Patten redundancy scheme for police officers will come to an end in 10 weeks time, it has cost almost 500 million pounds. The scheme was a part of the Good Friday Agreement and was aimed at persuading Protestant officers to retire, opening the way for more Catholic recruits to the new PSNI.
It achieved that goal - but as our Home Affairs Correspondent Vincent Kearney exclusively reports, at huge financial cost.
