Dr Fred Freeman on Tannahill and Burns
Liam Logan chats to Dr Fred Freeman who is in Carrickfergus, giving a talk at the ‘Together in Time’ Festival put on by the East Antrim Traditional Music School.
Fred, who always stresses that Burns was a musician and song-writer as well as a poet, is speaking about Robert Tannahill and Robert Burns.
He tells Liam about the importance of music to these two famous Scots - and discusses Tannahill’s link with Ulster through ‘The Wild Mountain Thyme’.
We also hear a couple of sample tracks from his forthcoming complete collection of Tannahill’s songs.(Broadcast: 23 Jun 2007)
