Refugee Child Musicians
Professor Bettany Hughes travels to Beirut and to the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon to visit a music project 'teaching souls to sing again' thanks to traditional music.
Over 1 million Syrian refugees have found asylum in Lebanon - and it's estimated half of those fleeing Syria's brutal civil war are children. Professor Bettany Hughes travels to Beirut and to the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon to visit a music project 'teaching souls to sing again' thanks to traditional music. In the classroom Bettany meets the young students who have lived through trauma, but are now experiencing the age-old therapeutic power of music. She visits families in the Beqaa refugee camps to learn how music is impacting on their lives, and attends a concert given by the young refugee musicians in Beirut, experiencing first-hand the hope and the healing power of art.
